A Perfect End to the Tour

Mark Cavendish produced another spectacular sprint finish in the final stage of the 2010 Tour de France in Paris on Sunday (25th July) to win his 5th stage.
He was overjoyed at winning (his 15th career stage win) and becoming the first man ever to seal back-to-back wins on the Champs Elysees.
“It’s a perfect end to the Tour” he said.
"You have got to be happy with just one stage win at the Tour de France. I had some bad luck in the first days but we fought back. We've won five stages and we're happy with this year's Tour."
Still only 25 years of age he has proved without question that he is the fastest in the world, it is being suggested he may even be the fastest the sport has ever seen!
Unfortunately despite his success he didn’t win the Green Jersey due to some difficult stages at the beginning of the 3 week race.

He will now turn his attention to the World Championships in Melbourne in October, where he is aiming to become the first Briton to win the rainbow jersey since 1965.

Cavendish waiting for his sprint rival Petacchi to make his move before streaking away to take victory by several bike lengths.

"I'm really happy," he said afterwards. "It was another incredible ride by the guys once again, and after that I couldn't come away with anything less than a win.

Mark Cavendish won today’s (15th July) stage, his 3rd in the 2010 Tour de France taking his career total to 13, a performance unequalled by any sprinter in the last two decades.

In another dramatic bunch sprint Cav took it on from further out than usual, “I usually go around 200m - 250m max - but I had to go 375m-400m so it was a long finish by my standards” he said afterwards.

In the chaos of the sprint there was a coming together which has resulted in Cav’s lead out man Mark Renshaw being thrown out of the Tour.

Mark Cavendish sprinted to victory on stage six of the Tour de France today (9th July) to take his career total to 12.

His second stage win in a row came on the longest stage of this year’s Tour (227.5km) after being perfectly set up by his teammate Mark Renshaw.

"I cross the line with my hands in the air, but it doesn't make me necessarily the only guy who's done it.”

"I've got guys riding for me on the front all day. It's incredible to do, especially with the Alps coming up where some of our guys will have their own ambitions. It shows they are willing to sacrifice for the team."

11th Tour de France stage win for Cav!

Mark Cavendish won stage 5 of the Tour de France today (July 8th) to make it 11 career stage wins in the ‘Tour’.

"It means everything, it has been hard this year and things haven't really gone our way in the first few days of the Tour.”

"It is an incredible feeling. All that emotion and pressure that has built up all year has finally come to an end.”.

Joanne to endorse Cirrus Healthcare products

Joanne has signed a 3 year deal to promote specialist personal healthcare products that protect the ears when swimming and remove trapped water after swimming, BioEars and ClearEars.

Over the next three years Joanne’s image will be used on-pack, in point of sale and print advertising as Cirrus Healthcare aims to encourage the nation’s swimmers to use BioEars silicone earplugs to prevent water from getting trapped during swimming and ClearEars to clear the discomfort suffered by swimmers who are prone to getting water trapped in the ears.

Joanne said: “I’ve always had a problem with water getting trapped in my ears from all the time I spend in the pool so both products have been really useful for me.”

“I often use BioEars to stop the water getting in…..and occasionally so that I can’t hear my coach shouting at me!”

Cirrus Healthcare expressed their delight at securing Joanne as their brands ambassador:

“Having a swimmer as successful as Joanne representing our brands is very exciting for us at Cirrus. We believe her endorsement will encourage all swimmers to consider using BioEars whenever they go for a swim.”

Victoria’s statement on changes to track cycling schedule for London 2012

10th December 2009

Today’s announcement by the IOC that they have approved the UCI’s proposals to make an equal number of track cycling events available for men and women at the London Olympics is a very positive step for female track cycling everywhere in the World.

The fact this progress has been made for the London Games is a great advert for equality in Britain.

Obviously it’s very disappointing that some events have been dropped from the schedule within these changes and I was as surprised as anyone that the UCI actually made such radical proposals. I really feel for my team mates who will miss out as a result.

In Beijing I was lucky enough to win a gold medal which I am very proud of, and because it was my only medal opportunity it made it even more satisfying.

Having the opportunity to compete in more events in 2012 will be amazing but I would be extremely happy to repeat what I achieved in Beijing by winning just one! To do that on home soil would be a dream come true.

I’m already training towards London but this news gives all female track cyclists a real boost with more places available on the team. With greater equality there in the events available to women there will be more opportunities for young female riders to represent their country and fulfill their ambitions.
